Getting ahead online with competitor analysis

We were recently approached by a marketing agency to create a report for them. It wasn’t the typical report that we would produce for a client but contained lots of the elements that we were used to supplying.

It turned out that this report was actually going to help an investor with a potential acquisition decision. Essentially they needed to see the position of a brand in a particular online marketplace and in various territories – the type of data that we at Leeds Digital Marketing access every day.

What we realised whilst pulling this piece together, is that we are engaged in competitor analysis for clients all the time but have never offered it as a standalone service. Until now…

What is Google My Business?

Google My Business is a simple to use, free tool that allows you to control how your business is seen in both Google search and Maps. This plays a vital part in gaining new clients whether you have a physical ‘bricks and mortar’ presence or you sell your goods or services via the web.

From displaying basic information such as your business name, location and opening hours to offering a button that allows people on mobile devices who search for what you sell to call you directly – all the fundamentals are there. You can add relevant photos that show what you’re about and published customer reviews will also hopefully give potential new clients a good reason to get in touch. There is even the functionality for people to message you from your Google My Business listing to ask you questions and you can write posts which will appear on your listing – you might use these to highlight any special offers that you’re currently running or recent ‘good news’ stories.
